Bethel’s Karina Farr taking hoop talents east

Bethel High School basketball standout Karina Farr is headed east – way east. Farr has committed to play for the Emory and Henry College Wasps in Emory Va., 3,000 miles from home. The cross-country transfer of Farr’s hoop talents began last August when she was contacted by Wasps assiistant coach Brittany Tate. After visiting the campus, and despite scholarship offers from and acceptance to eight other colleges, Farr chose Emory and Henry. She said she was sold on its “family atmosphere,” pre-med academic program (she wants to become a doctor for her Squaxin Island Tribe people), and head coach Rose Katz’s basketball philosophy. Emory and Henry, an NCAA Division III school, was 2-20 in 2011-12, Katz’s first season after being hired last June. Farr was an All-South Puget Sound League 4A selection last season. At 5 feet 7 inches, she pulled down 220 rebounds while helping lead Bethel to a 15-11 record.

For her letter-of-intent signing ceremony, Karina Farr was joined by her mother, Karen Farr, her father Robert Farr (right) and her Bethel High School coach, John Ainslie.
