U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar plans to visit Mount Rainier National Park Tuesday to meet with park employees and leaders of nearby communities and the tourism industry.
The meetings, scheduled for the morning at Longmire, are part of a trip Salazar is taking that reportedly includes stops at parks in Alaska and the Rocky Mountain states.
Officials at Mount Rainier said community and government leaders from several communities, including Eatonville, have been invited to meet with Salazar. Also on the invitation list are representatives of tourism organizations that work with businesses to tap into the approximately 1 million visitors at the park annually.
The economic impact of the park on businesses and communities is expected to be part of Salazar’s conversation with those representatives.
