Firefighters booting up for fund-raiser

5:10 pm September 5th, 2012

Eatonville Firefighter Association members will conduct a fill-the-boot fund-raiser this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for money to help pay for equipment and training for the Eatonville Fire Department.

Donations will help offset budget cuts for the agency, officials said. They also said the fund-raiser, which will have firefighters at intersections, is being held after the Labor Day holiday weekend to minimize any impact on traffic flow through town.

Contributions are also accepted at the fire station on Center Street weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

I applaud the firefighters association for trying to raise funds. I just hope there is information for the drivers to let them know exactly what the donations are for. At this time of year “fill the boot” campaigns have traditionally been fundraisers for The Muscular Dystrophy Association and people think of that first when they see firefighters at intersections collecting donations. Be safe in the streets.
