The Eatonville Police Department is asking for the public’s cooperation with school-related traffic-control efforts at the intersection of Carter Street and Washington Avenue North.
Left-hand turns onto Carter from Washington are banned Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 8:30 in the morning and 2:30 to 3 in the afternoon. The restriction is intended to keep traffic from backing up while children are being dropped off and picked up at nearby Eatonville Elementary School and Eatonville Middle School. Children also cross the intersection on foot.
The fine for violators is $124. In addition, drivers who refuse to obey the directions of a police officer or school crossing guards could result in criminal misdemeanor charges being filed, police offiicials said.
An officer is stationed at the intersection during the no-lefts time periods to help monitor traffic and enforce the rule.
