Cathryn (Cathy) Louise Swenson June 16, 1942-Oct. 14, 2012

Cathy was born to George and Bernadine Huntoon in Orange, Calif. She and Dennis Swenson were married on Aug. 2, 1964 and moved to Pierce County, Wash. in 1966p Cathy, who frequently referred to herself as a “professional volunteer,” was active for 45 years in many areas, including her church, 4H youth sewing instruction, Washington state 4H Fashion Revue, Pierce County Fair Board, Home and Community Educators and Clothing and Textile Advisors. She was the recipient of many awards, including the Pierce County government Volunteer of the Year Award in 1989, 2009 and 2012. She was also a 2001 inductee into the Washington 4H Hall of Fame. Cathy was preceeded in death by her youngest daughter, Melinda. She is survived by husband Dennis, daughters Tracy Swenson, Marta (Thomas) Costanzo, Alayna (Randy) Septon and seven grandchildren. Also by brothers Wally, John and Ron Huntoon. Interment has been done at Fir Lane Cemetery in Spanaway. A celebration of Cathy’s life will take place at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 4519 112th St. E., Tacoma, on Friday, Oct. 26, 2 p.m., with reception to follow. Box 1186, Graham, WA 98333 or Pierce County 4H, 3602 Pacific Ave., Suite B, Tacoma, WA 98418. Cathy brought grace, joy and warmth to many lives, including hundreds of Washington youth. She will be dearly missed by many and would urge all of us to invest some of ourselves in those around us, especially our young people.
