State mat champion Ian Steen is college-bound

Graham-Kapowsin High School senior Ian Steen has signed a letter of intent to wrestle in college for Western State Colorado University.
Steen is the reigning class 4A state champion in the 138-pound division. He plowed through the competition in the state tournament in Tacoma last February, winning three times with pins and once by decision. He pinned Deshar House of Beamer in the championship match in 3:35, the fastest of his pins.
At Western State Colorado, which is located in Gunnison, Colo., Steen plans to study wildlife science. The school has 2,300 students and is an NCAA small-division school.
