Douglas Arnold Smith

Douglas Arnold Smith, 76, died Sunday, January 26 at The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge. A native of Eatonville, WA and a resident of St. Francisville, he received degrees in chemical engineering from Washington State University and University of Idaho. He retired from Tembec. He was a member of St. Francisville Rotary club and several boards and commissions for the town of St. Francisville. An avid tennis player and runner, he completed three Boston marathons. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Rogers Smith, son Nicholas Smith and wife Connie, daughters Teresa Smith and Elizabeth DiFelice and husband Andrew; two grandchildren, Harrison and Caroline Smith, and two step-granddaughters, Rachel and Morgan DiFelice. He is also survived by his brother Phillip Smith and sisters Larrie Ann Clark, Nancy West, and Patricia Medak. Preceded in death by parents William and Ella Whitney Smith and a brother, Curtis Smith. Visitation was at St. Francisville United Methodist Church January 31. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge, 550 Lobdell Ave. Baton Rouge 70806-6316.
