On March 26, the Eatonville School Board approved Columbia Crest to become a K-8 STEM school. Columbia Crest will now serve kindergarten through eighth-grade students, starting with the 2014-15 school year. We are currently enrolling students for all grade levels. We are excited to have our seventh and eighth-grade students be able to continue their education with us.
Over the past year, Columbia Crest staff has been working hard to implement its new science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) principles. STEM education is an innovative, inquiry-based, hands-on style of learning. Students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in tangible ways. By extending our educational practices through the eighth grade, we are allowing families to choose the environment in which their child learns best. As educators, we want the best fit for each and every student. Columbia Crest facilitates learning experiences driven by problem solving, discovery, and exploration.
STEM allows Columbia Crest to serve students who have a high interest in science, technology, engineering and math. Today’s job market increasingly seeks employees that are focused on STEM. In order for our students to be ready and well-qualified for those jobs, their understanding of STEM topics must be thorough.
In addition to a great education, Columbia Crest provides students with a small-family kind of feel when you walk in the front door. As the principal of Columbia Crest, I personally invite your family to come and preview our school on May 20 for our STEM Career Fair from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. On that same day, we will be having an open house from 2:30 to 3:30.
Please come tour our school, meet our staff, and learn what exciting things are happening at Columbia Crest. Enrollment materials can be picked up from Columbia Crest STEM School or the Eatonville School District office. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 360-569-2567.
