The search at Mount Rainier National Park for a missing hiker has been scaled back.
Edwin Birch, 64, of Tacoma hasn’t been seen since July 12, when he was reported missing during a hike on the Wonderland Trail. After a week of searching, park officials said the effort was reduced last Saturday to a “limited but continuous” effort.
Last Friday, the last day of a full search, the focus was on the Boulder Creek drainage area above Ohanapecosh River. That was a key “high-probability location” of Birch, officials said.
