After a week full of rainy weather, the Lady Cruisers were finally able to get a game in. After the team’s previous home game against the River Ridge Hawks was rained out, they moved the make-up game to the Regional Athletic Complex (RAC) in Lacey. Although River Ridge High School plays some of their home games at the RAC, Eatonville was the home team in this game.

The Hawks, 3-5 so far in the season, knew they had to get to the Cruisers early to have a shot a stealing a win, and they did just that. With the league leader in wins Haley Olson on the mound, the Hawks scored two runs in the first and added another four in the third inning before the Cruisers could make a comeback.

And come back they did. The Lady Cruisers scored four runs of their own in the fourth inning. After pushing across another run in the fifth, Brooklynn Lucht stepped up to the plate and hit a solo home run to center field to tie the game at 6. Mary Chabot drove in the winning run on a ground out that scored Dakota Smith. They would add a couple more runs as insurance in the inning on a Hailey Rath single that scored her sister Kaitlyn Rath and Mackenzie Waller to take a 9-6 lead that would be the final score.

Berkley Porter came in to relieve Olson in the fifth inning and gave up no hits, no runs and struck out six Hawk batters on her way to her first win of the season for the Cruisers.

At the halfway point in the season, the Cruiser record sits at 9-1 overall and 5-0 in league play. They should have pretty smooth sailing the rest of the way with only two tough games against Fife (8-1) and White River (5-4) to finish out the regular season.

Next up

The Cruisers will take on Steilacoom High School and Clover Park High School on Monday, April 15, and Tuesday, April 16, before heading to Orting High School to take on the rival Cardinals on Thursday, April 18.
