After a rough two weeks to start off the season, the Junior Cruiser youth football teams were looking to turn things around when they hosted Bethel and White River this past Saturday.

The third/fourth grade team would get things going first as they took on the Bulldogs.

Both teams would play great defense in this game.

Bethel would score twice in the first quarter and then the Jr. Cruiser defense would shut them down for the rest of the game.

The Cruisers would finally get the offense going early in the fourth quarter when Ben Smith would reel off a 22 yard touchdown run. He would end up running about 50 yards on the play. The play was designed to go left, but as he got close to the far sideline, he saw there was nowhere to go so he cut it back across the field for the score. Cody Jumper, who was playing quarterback after Avery Mount went out with an injury, would keep the ball to convert the 1 point extra point.

The Bulldogs would end up taking the win, 13-7.

The fifth/sixth grade team would be up next and face the always tough White River Wolverines.

The Wolverine defense was smothering and the Cruisers struggled to get anything going offensively.

One highlight for the Cruisers was an interception by Jaxson Lebron at the Wolverine 3 yard line to stop them from scoring again. This would be Lebron’s second interception of the season.

The Wolverines would end up downing the Cruisers 44-0.

Next up for the teams will be Saturday, Sept. 21 at Art Crate Stadium in Spanaway. The third/fourth grade team will take on Paladin at 10:30 a.m. while the fifth/sixth grade team will take on Fife at 9 a.m.
