A murder suspect was arrested by Royal Canadian Mounted Police in British Columbia after fleeing Pierce County Sheriff deputies and other Washington police early Monday morning.

At 4:14 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence in the 15100 block of 71st Avenue East in the South Hill area.

Deputies learned a male suspect reportedly shot his girlfriend inside the home, then fled on foot with a firearm.  The female victim died from her wounds, according to a sheriff department’s news release.

Following the shooting, the suspect reportedly stole a van from a business on Valley Avenue Northwest in Puyallup.  The van is a white 2006 GMC Savanna with a small refrigeration unit on the top, a Liberty Distribution logo on the sides and Washington state license plate number B25902H.

The suspect has been identified as Jordan Eaton. He is a 26-year-old white male, 5’8” tall and 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.  He was last seen wearing black sweatpants, a black hooded sweatshirt and no shoes. Eaton is considered armed and dangerous, the news release states.

Detectives and deputies searched the Puyallup area for the suspect and are asked the public to call 911 if they see the homicide suspect or the stolen van he is believed to be traveling in.

At 3:19 p.m. the Pierce County Sheriff's Office tweeted that Eaton was arrested in Surrey, British Columbia, after crossing the border illegally. He was located by local Canadian police at a hospital. Eaton ran from the officers and was arrested after a short foot pursuit. Eaton was armed, according to the sheriff.

The stolen van was found by Whatcom County Sheriff deputies.
