It was another quick – less than 20 minutes – meeting of the Pierce County Council on Jan. 21.
By a 7-0 vote, the council passed Resolution No. 2019-67, approving a legal name change of Pierce County Fire Protection District No. 17 to “South Pierce Fire & Rescue” as per the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 52.30.060.
“I think this is mostly a clarification,” explained Joseph Quinn, attorney for the fire district. “We do get questions from voters once in a while that they’re confused about whether we’re part of Pierce County government, and the fire districts obviously are not.”
Quinn summarized: “It’s a corporate name change.”
