If you're planning a camping trip this weekend to a state park, include the firewood. Washington State Parks officials announced Thursday that they've lifted a ban on campfires in state parks in western Washington, as the result of rain that fell Wednesday and continued Thursday, plus forecasts of milder weather. Their decision followed the lead of state Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Goldmark, who earlier canceled a similar ban in all campgrounds within land managed by the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Alder Lake Park is among those sites. Campers west of the Cascade Mountains may resume having campfires in designated campfire rings. They can also use charcoal briquettes in grills. A campfire ban remains in effect in eastern Washington. "We constantly monitor conditions to gauge risk," Goldmark said. "Recent rainfall and forecasts of milder temperatures, higher humidity and further precipitation have abated the risk in the western region" of Washington. But he urged "everyone to remain vigilant regarding wildfire danger throughout the state.GÇ¥
