Sammie Swartout has been named a WIAA 1A High School Athlete of the Week for her performances in Eatonville's recent victories over Tenino and Aberdeen. Swartout scored a game-high 28 and 29 points, respectively, as the Cruisers beat Aberdeen 71-60 Jan. 19 and thumped Tenino 73-43 on Jan. 21. She hit six three-pointers in both of the Evergreen League contests. WIAA (Washington Interscholastic Activities Association), the governing body of high school sports in the state, picks an Athlete of the Week in each sport. Winners of the award receives a congratulatory letter from WIAA executive director, Mike Colbrese, a commemorative t-shirt and a certificate.
