Joan Christensen

Joan "NancyGÇ¥ Christensen was born March 25, 1930 and passed away peacefully in Rancho Mirage, California on Sept. 9, 2014. Joan was born and raised in Eatonville and attended nurses training at Tacoma General Hospital upon her graduation from Eatonville High School. After becoming a registered nurse, she married Dick Christensen, also of Eatonville. Joan and Dick managed, then owned Christensen's Department Store. They also traveled extensively during that time and fell in love with the Hawaiian islands. In 1988, they retired to Maui and lived the Hawaiian life for 19 years. They enjoyed entertaining and hosting many family and friends. They subsequently moved to Indio, California and enjoyed many sunny summers there. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Jessie Pravitz; brother William Pravitz; and sisters Patricia Williams and Virginia Nelson. She is survived by her husband Dick Christensen; son Rick (Dana) Christensen; and daughters Jan (Steve) Rose and Kay (Chris) Davis; her grandchildren, Michelle (Michael) Christensen Quayle, Justin (Sasi) Christensen, Mark (Lindsay) Rose, Erik Rose and Brett Harris; and great-grandson Liam Christensen. Joan always called Eatonville home and enjoyed being surrounded by her family and friends. She was known for her sense of humor and endless energy. She will be greatly missed. The family requests that remembrances be made to the American Heart Association. Memorial service will be held at Eatonville Methodist Church on Nov. 15 at 2.
