Ashley Barker, who became the first female principal of Eatonville High School two years ago, will resign at the end of the current school year. The Eatonville School District announced last week that Barker is stepping down because of family responsibilities. Her resignation will take effect July 1. District superintendent Krestin Bahr said a new principal will be hired by the end of June. An application and hiring process will begin soon, she said last Thursday. Barker was assistant principal at Eatonville High for two years before moving up to principal for the 2012-13 school year. She became the first woman to be principal in the school's then-97-year history. Bahr praised Barker for advances at the school during her tenure as principal and assistant principal. EHS was named a School of Distinction in 2013 by statewide education groups, several additions to the faculty became "phenomenal teachers ,GÇ¥ and the school maintained "an unwavering commitment to increasing academic achievement,GÇ¥ Bahr said. The school "has an excellent reputationGÇ¥ in academics, sports, clubs and "innovative programsGÇ¥ such as career and technical education, she added. "We thank Ashley for her excellent service and wish her well,GÇ¥ Bahr said.
