Showdown for Bethel and G-K; final playoffs push for Cruisers

Graham-Kapowsin (8-0) at Bethel (6-2), Oct. 30, 7 p.m.
In a showdown that's been building throughout the regular season, cross-district rivals Graham-Kapowsin and Bethel will battle it out this Friday for the South Puget Sound League's South Division title. They're the division's top two teams going into the contest. Graham-Kapowsin is undefeated and in the top spot, while Bethel has just one loss against South foes. A G-K victory will give the Eagles the regular-season honors. They'll share the division crown with Bethel if the Braves win. Both teams won last week. Graham-Kapowsin spread the offensive wealth around Thursday during a 38-7 drubbing of Rogers, and Bethel rolled over Spanaway Lake 39-8 on Friday. Five players scored touchdowns for G-K, starting with Aaron Wright's 34-yard run in the first quarter. That period ended with the host Eagles ahead 21-0, and the lead was up to 31-0 at halftime. The scoring parade against Rogers (2-6) after Wright got it started included Dylan Morris' 12-yard pass to Beau Blowers, Mikey Regan's interception and return of 45 yards, Kobe Merriweather's five-yard run and Viliami Hansen's 1-yard sojourn. Noah Harden added a 33-yard field goal. Bethel's passing combination of Elijah McLeod and Tristyne Gese was a two-man scoring machine against Spanaway Lake. McLeod was on the receiving end of Gese passes covering 29 yards and 17 yards in the second quarter that helped put the Braves ahead 22-0, and a 54-yard bomb in the third period helped seal the win. Another Gese touchdown toss in the third quarter, this one 24 yards to Sam Doyle, and Ty Norman's 35-yard field goal completed the scoring. Bethel made a big opening statement with a 90-yard kick return by Jordan Talmonglo for a touchdown in the first quarter.
Eatonville (4-4) at Forks (1-7), Oct. 30, 7 p.m.
Eatonville stayed in contention for a berth in the 1A district playoffs by outdueling Elma 48-35 last Friday. To keep their hopes alive, the Cruisers will need to win their regular-season finale on the road over a team that has lost its last six games. Forks' latest setback was last Friday, 21-7 at the hands of Aberdeen. Eatonville made its homecoming game a happy one by taking the lead for good with three unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter GÇô Logan Moose's 1-yard run, Tucker Polls's 72-yard burst, Ray Springer's 8-yard pass from Jake McCormick.
