Voting in the primary election has begun, and voters in the Graham and Eatonville areas won't have to spend much time doing it. In Eatonville, races for mayor and Port of Tacoma commissioner are all that's on the ballot. And in Graham, the port contest is the only one. All other local offices that are up for election this year, including the Eatonville and Bethel school boards, Eatonville Town Council, and fire and water commissioners, will appear only on the general election ballot in November.They have either one or two candidates, which exempts them from running in the primary because there's no need to narrow the fields to two finalists. But the elimination process is necessary for the mayor and port commissioner contests. Each have four candidates. In primary election voting that ends Aug. 6, the top two finishers will advance to the general election. The Pierce County auditor's election department mailed primary ballots to voters last Friday.
