Town has new treasurer

Lori Smith has been appointed as town treasurer for Eatonville. The Town Council selected Smith from among two candidates Monday, the final day that town officials could control the appointment process. By state law, the position of treasurer GÇô vacant since former treasurer Mike Schaub took office in December as mayor GÇô had to be filled by March 31 or the appointment authority would have shifted to Pierce County officials. Smith has 20 years of experience in the financial industry. In a letter to town officials, she said she would donate her salary as treasurer to the town. The other applicant for treasurer was Tracey Norton, who has been a PTA treasurer and worked with other non-profit groups. (Read more in the April 9 print edition of The Dispatch)
