VandenBoom, record-setters star on track

Brailee VandenBoom of Eatonville High School won the high jump and finished second in another event in the 22-school Tacoma Invitational track and field meet April 16. And earlier last week, Tucker Buffington and Natasha Henley broke school records for Eatonville, helping the Cruisers win a three-school 1A Evergreen League track and field meet April 14 in Rochester. In the prestigious invitational hosted by Lincoln High, VandenBoom beat all comers in the girls' competition by clearing 5 feet 4 inches. She also placed second in 200 with a clocking of 27.20 seconds. Buffington, soaring 12 feet, set the new Eatonville standard in the boys' pole vault. Henley topped the girls' long jump record by soaring 16 feet 9 inches. Ray Springer (100 and long jump) and Dorion Dewitt (1,600 and 3,200) each won two individual events for Eatonville's boys team. The same was accomplished for the girls team by Brailee VandenBoom (200 and high jump), Emily Padgett (800 and 1,600) and Audrey Madison (hurdles races).
