Where was concern over dump project?

Re: "Tainted water source going away (Dispatch, Jan. 14). The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department seems very earnest and concerned in protecting our drinking water. Where was that concern 15 years ago? Fifteen years have passed since the first load of garbage was dumped in the sole-source aquifer that supplies water to 700,000 Pierce County residents. The 304th Street LeMay-Sutherland dump was put in place against every environmental and moral assessment. Secrecy and corruption, big money above and below the table showed that Pierce County politics would go its usual way of disregarding the will of the people. LeMay's Hidden Valley Superfund site continues to pollute and will never be cleaned up. The LeMay-Sutherland dump's protective liner will fail if it has not already done so. Monopolies continue to hold local government and certain media in their pockets. But wait, we've got a first-class antique car museum.
