Who's a hero? Red Cross wants to know

The American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter wants to honor everyday people who have performed extraordinary deeds of heroism in Pierce County. For example, Red Cross officials say: Do you know someone who used CPR to save a life, pulled a person from a burning building or went above and beyond to help someone in need? Those are the kind of people who will be honored Oct. 23 by Red Cross in its annual Heroes Breakfast awards program for local heroes who saved lives, exemplified the Red Cross mission or made significant, positive differences in the community in emergency response, preparedness and prevention. Recipients of the award in past years include police officers, firefighters, members of the miltary, teachers, children and even pets. Nomination information and forms are available at redcross.org/wa/tacoma/news-events/events/heroes, 206-726-3543 or kayla.davison@redcross.org. Nominees must be a resident of or employed in Pierce County, or the heroic act must have occurred within the county. Nominations must be submitted by Friday, July 12. Proceeds from the Heroes Breakfast in October will help support local Red Cross programs and services, officials said.
