THIS WEEKEND: Pierce County Fair, Freddie Fest, nature walk

Out and about this weekend in south Pierce County:

• The Pierce County Fair, marking its 70th year, will stage another four-day run at Frontier Park in Graham Aug. 10-13. It's billed by its organizers as a yearly celebration of rural life, agriculture and "good old family values."
Fairgoers will find the usual array of agricultural displays and livestock, carnival rides, food, vendors and entertainment when the gates open daily at 10 a.m.
Daily shows by magician Jeff Evans, the Wenatchee Youth Circus, and musicians Greg Parke, Cale Moon and Coal Train Express are on tap. One-day only performances are scheduled by country singer Megs McLean on Saturday at 8:15 p.m. and the dance group High Impact on Friday. In addition, the animated movie "Zootopia" will be screened Thursday night.

• Frederickson’s annual community festival, Freddie Fest, will be held Aug. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sound Life Church.
A car show, a chili cookoff, and displays by vendors are among the scheduled attractions.
The church is at 3425 176th St. E.
The event’s sponsor and organizer is Frederickson-Clover Creek Community Council.

• Morse Wildlife Preserve's next Second Sunday program – an exploration of habitats from forest to riparian and prairies to wetlands – is scheduled for Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Best for ages 2 and up, the free activity gives the public access to foot trails and a boardwalk. The preserve is located in Graham at 25415 70th Ave. E.
Second Sunday events are held monthly between April and October. Schedules and other information is available from Tahoma Audubon at 253-565-9278, tahomaaudubon.org and morsewildlifepreserve.org.
No pets are allowed in the preserve, and carpooling is encouraged because of limited parking at the site.
The Morse Wildlife Preserve is managed by Forterra, a non-profit environmental and land conservancy organization.
