Loss no problem for regionals-bound Bethel

Bethel’s Braves had the luxury of losing last week and still having a spot in the 3A girls high school basketball regionals.
Gig Harbor beat the Braves 54-46 Feb. 16 in Olympia in the semifinals of the West Central-Southwest District playoffs, knocking them out of contention for the district title.
But Bethel, with victories over Shelton and Mountain View in the first and second rounds of the district action, was already assured of advancing to the regionals. And on Feb. 18, Bethel (19-4) wlll face Lincoln (18-5) to decide their district’s third and fourth-place seeds for the regionals, which will be staged Feb. 24-25.
The Bethel-Lincoln showdown is deja vu for both teams. They tangled twice during the regular season, in which the Abes won the Pierce County League regular-season championship and the Braves were the league’s runnerup. Lincoln won both meetings with Bethel – 50-36 on Jan. 6 and 50-26 on Jan. 31
