Hiker dies amid falling rocks

A 75-year-old man died last week at Mount Rainier National Park in an apparent hiking mishap involving falling rocks.
The Pierce County medical examiner identified him as Burt Myers, who lived in Olympia.
A park spokeswoman said Myers died Jul.y 13 near the Eagle Peak Trail in the Tatoosh Range. He had been hiking that day with three other people when he headed off alone at 1:30 p.m. on a different, cross-country route.  At about 2:30, hikers discovered rockfall in the area and reported it to park officials at 4:30.
Searchers by air found Myers’ body among the fallen rocks and turned it over to the medical examiner. An official cause of death hadn’t been reported as of July 17.
Park search-and-rescue crews and a helicopter contracted from Helicopter Express Inc., were involved in finding the dead hiker and removing the body.
