Contract talks progressing between Bethel schools and union

The Bethel School District has reached tentative agreements on part of a new contract with a union representing more than 1,000 of its employees.
The district, in a statement issued last week, said there are "tentative agreements on a majority of non-financial interests" with the Bethel chapter of Public School Employees (PSE).
Negotiations are underway "on financial interests," the district reported.
According to the union, the negotiations for a new contract began with 22 non-financial items and 28 related to financial matters.
The district said it will make information about the progress of negotiations available to the public when it "becomes available."
The union's current contract, in effect since Sept. 1, 2014, is scheduled to expire on Aug. 31, shortly before the start of the 2017-18 school year.
The Bethel chapter of PSE has eight groups of school district workers. The approximately 1,100 members include school bus assistants, child nutrition staff, custodians, maintenance and technology workers, mechanics, para-educators/special services, secretary/clerks, and transportation workers.
