Michael Lawrence Gayda 1944 - 1918

Michael Lawrence Gayda 1944-2018, Mountain Mike, 73 of Eatonville and Lakewood passed away peacefully early on June 5, 2018. Mike grew up in Eatonville graduating from High School in 1962. Mike loved to run.

     He graduated from Eastern Washington University on a track scholarship. He ran many Sound to Narrows races-one on crutches. Mike was a teacher and principal in the Franklin Pierce School District for many years. He loved his teachers, students, and school community.

     Mike joined the Eatonville Lions Club when he was 21. He belonged to several other Lions Clubs, but his heart remained in Eatonville. With the Club’s support Mike ran for District Governor and began a great experience in Lion Leadership. He was a proud Lion. He also loved to play tennis and was a great competitor. He served as the President of the Lakewood Racquet Club forming many close friendships.

     Mike is preceded in death by his parents John and Jean Gayda and his sister Marilyn Gayda Abrams. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years Suzanne, his brother-in-law Gary Abrams, his Uncle Ed Gayda and many cousins, friends, neighbors, and his beloved 20 pound black cat named Koa. He believed in Kaizen-working for continuous improvement. That’s how he lived his life. He was generous with his time, wisdom, chainsaw, and pick-up truck.

     Mike battled diabetes for years. Strokes and kidney disease followed. Many amazing health professionals helped Mike through this tough time. Friends, family, students, and co-workers will miss his jokes, easy laugh, and positive outlook.

     Arrangements by Mt. View Funeral Home- Graveside will be held on Saturday, June 23 at 11:30am. A memorial service will follow at 1:00pm at Spanaway Lutheran Church. Donations may be made to CARE.org.
