Junior Cruiser youth teams come up short

Junior Cruisers look ahead to the games yet to come, put their best cleat forward

The 2019 Junior Cruiser youth football teams both looked to bounce back after losses last week.  This week they would play host to the Puyallup Vikings and Spanaway Sentinels at Eatonville High School.

The third/fourth grade team would take on the Vikings and it would be a close game, with the Cruiser coming up short 7-6.

Ben Smith would score the lone touchdown for the Cruisers.

The fifth/sixth grade team would go up against the Spanaway Sentinels.

The Sentinels would enjoy a 31-0 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Cruisers would mount a comeback in the fourth quarter. Jacob Simons would score three times for the Cruisers with Peyton Hughey adding an extra point but the Cruiser comeback would fall short and they would fall 31-19.

Junior Cruiser board president Corey Simons had this to say about the game, “Both Eatonville teams showed a huge improvement from last week and had very solid performances. The 3/4 team lost a heartbreaker by 1 point and their defense would only give up 1 touchdown. The 5/6 team showed a lot of heart rallying in the fourth quarter, down 31-0, to score 3 touchdowns and an extra point. Both teams are primarily first year players and are showing some real progress.”

Next Saturday, the Junior Cruisers will play host to Bethel (third/fourth) and White River (fifth/sixth) at Eatonville High School. The third/fourth team will play at 9 a.m. and the fifth/sixth team will follow at 10:30 am. Head on out to the stadium to give support.
