County Sheriff coming to Sultan for coffee with residents

By Chris Hendrickson, Monitor
It's a bit of a twist on Sultan's Coffee with the Mayor concept. Instead of the mayor, Sky Valley residents will get the chance to have coffee with the Sheriff of Snohomish County.
The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office is inviting Sky Valley residents to come and have coffee with the Sheriff. The event, hosted by Snohomish County Sheriff Ty Trenary and Snohomish County Sheriff's Office East Precinct Chief Monte Beaton, will take place on Saturday, Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Vinaccio Coffee in
Sultan. Sky Valley citizens are welcome to drop in and meet with Sheriff Trenary and Chief Beaton, up-close and personal.
Attendees are welcome to ask questions about different aspects of the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office's involvement in the community, and will have the opportunity to learn about new Sheriff's Office initiatives.
Ty Trenary was unanimously appointed to the position of Snohomish County Sheriff in July of 2013, directly on the heels of then-Sheriff John Lovick's shift to the Snohomish County Executive's Office. Executive John Lovick transitioned to the Executive's Office after former executive Aaron Reardon's resignation, effective on May 31.
Trenary's appointment to Sheriff facilitated the arrival of Chief Monte Beaton, who was needed in Sultan to replace Chief Rob Beidler. Beidler left Sultan's east precinct to join Sheriff Trenary's command staff at the Sheriff's Office in Everett.
Trenary will run for the Sheriff's position in a special election later this year. His opponent, Sgt. Jim Upton, lives in Monroe.
Attendees are welcomed to make inquiries in regards to the upcoming Sky Valley Citizens' Academy which begins on Thursday, Feb. 6. The free, 13-week series will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Sultan Middle School and is open to all members of the community.
Academy attendees must be able to pass a basic criminal background check.
Coffee with the Sheriff will be held at Vinaccio Coffee which is located at 507 U.S. Hwy 2 in Sultan.
