Falling tree kills driver east of Monroe

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office has identified 23-year-old Grant M. Strinden of Monroe as the victim in last Tuesday's fatal tree-versus-vehicle accident on Ben Howard Road.

According to the sheriff's office, emergency crews responded to a report of a fallen tree on a vehicle in the 28800 block of Ben Howard Road around 1:10 p.m. Nov. 17, where the driver was found dead inside. The road was closed for several hours between Cedar Ponds Road and 297th Avenue Southeast.

The examiner's office reports Strinden's cause of death as blunt force injuries to the head.

A celebration of Strinden's life will take place 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Cascade Community Church, 14377 166th Ave. S.E., in Monroe.

A fundraiser to support Strinden's 7-year-old daughter, Kandyce, whom he was driving to see at the time of his death, and his fianc+¬e Ronicka Messner will take place 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Tuscano's Italian Kitchen in Monroe.

Messner has worked at Tuscano's for more than a year. Her coworkers and restaurant owner Scott Perry quickly organized a "Take Them a MealGÇ¥ schedule for her and her daughter after hearing the news.

Twenty-five percent of gross sales from the Dec. 2 "Dine OutGÇ¥ fundraiser will be contributed to Messner and her daughter, and employees are donating their wages during the event, according to a news release.

"What a terrible tragedy for Ronicka,GÇ¥ Perry said in a news release statement. " . . . we hope this fundraiser will show her our love and support as well as provide financial assistance during this very difficult time.GÇ¥
