Farmers Market grows in second week

Last Wednesday marked week two of Monroe's new Farm to Table Farmer's Market, and vendors had another successful day.
Located near Traveler's Park at 501 E. Main St., the farmer's market takes place from 3 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday throughout the summer months. The weekly market features local produce, hot food, live music, hand-crafted items including jewelry and home decor, face painting, kids' corner and a beer garden.
In order to provide a wider selection of vegetables, Farm to Table coordinator Molly Daniels worked to bring in new vendors for week two, including Tualco Valley Produce, who offered fresh beets, green peppers, onions, tomatoes, watermelon, green onions, cucumbers and more. Fresh eggs were also available, both from Tualco Valley Produce and Waterwheel Creek Farm.
This week's market, which will take place on Wednesday, July 29, will feature a "Christmas in JulyGÇ¥ theme, including Santa, dancing in the snow, Christmas carols, free candy canes and Christmas crafts. New vendors will include baked goods by Spoonful of Sweets, fresh cut flowers by Chao Gardens, fresh vegetables from Orange Star Farm and several others.
