Five Narwhals compete in 2016 YMCA regional championships

Five swimmers with Monroe YMCA's Narwhals team competed in the 2016 YMCA Pacific North Regional Championships at the Osborn Aquatic Center in Corvallis, Oregon, over the weekend.

Kimi Nakamura, 10, Natalie Farlow, 13, Christian Clarke, 14, Alex Teschlog and Tryggve Trivett, 10, were all qualifiers for the championships on Feb. 26-28, 2016. Nakamura, Farlow and Clarke qualified in seven events and the others in at least 3 events.-á The meet gathers competitors from Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Washington and Wyoming. Head coach Derik Vessey and assistant coach Tiffani Hilden brought the team down to Corvallis.

Nakamura, who competed in the ages 9-10 category,-á placed sixth in Women's 100 IM, 11th in the Women's 50 Fly, fourth in the Women's 50 Free, fourth in the Women's 100 Breaststroke, fourth in the Women's 50 Breaststroke, fourth in the Women's 100 Free, ninth in the Women's 100 Free and ninth in the Women's 50 Backstroke.

Clarke, who competed in the ages 13-14 category, placed sixth in the Men's 200 Free, fifth in the Men's 100 Fly, 10th in the Men's 50 Free, eighth in the Men's 500 Free, 12th in the Men's 100 Free, 12th in the Men's 200 IM and 10th in the Men's 50 Fly.

Teschlog, who competed in the 15-21 category, placed 27th in the Women's 50 Breaststroke.

Farlow, who competed in the 13-14 category, placed fifth in the Women's 50 Breaststroke, 30th in the Women's 50 Free, 19th in the Women's 200 Breaststroke, 20th in the Women's 50 Backstroke, 17th in the Women's 100 Breaststroke, 24th in the Women's 200 IM and 33rd in the Women's 50 Fly.

Trivett, who competed in the 9-10 age category, placed 28th in the Women's 50 Fly and 22nd in the Women's 50 Free.

Nakamura, Farlow, Teschlog and Trivett also placed in the Women's 200 Medley (21 and under), taking 10th, 13th, 15th and 10th respectively, as well as the Women's 200 Free Relay, with Nakamura and Trivett taking 10th, Farlow taking 13th and Teschlog placing 15th.
