Born in Philadelphia, PA on March 20, 1949, Frances Marie “Penny” Kane Hager grew up competing in Irish Step Dancing.  She and her sisters Pat and Barbara danced on the Ted Mack Show and the 1965 New York World’s Fair.  After graduating from West Catholic Girls HS, Penny worked for TWA in New York until she met Captain James Hager on a blind date in 1969 at Ft. Bragg, NC.  The couple had two children: Heidi, born at Ft Bragg, NC and Jarrett, born at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and lived in several states before leaving the active Army after becoming partners in the Monroe Golf Course in 1976.  Her warm smile and hot pies greeted customers for 19 years.  She and Jim also built and operated the Iron Eagle Driving Range in Monroe before retiring in 1995.  In retirement, she wintered in Green Valley, AZ, where she danced Argentine tango and classic ballroom.  In the summer she golfed with “the gang” or traveled.  In these travels, Penny visited 46 countries and all 50 states.  Highlights of these travels include a bicycle trip from Monroe to Minnesota, 11 visits to Europe and Ghana, Peru, and Tibet.  Her passing on November 17, 2017 due to cancer will leave a vacancy in the hearts of her family which includes her three German exchange “kids,” her many friends and acquaintances.  A Memorial Mass will be held on Sat., December 2, 2017 at 11AM at St. Brendan Catholic Church, 10100 NE 192nd St., Bothell, WA 98011.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SCCA.
