Mayor makes Police and Fire Appreciation Week official

By Chris Hendrickson

Monroe Mayor Geoffrey Thomas presented Police Chief Tim Quenzer with the annual Police and Fire Appreciation Week Proclamation during the regular business meeting of the Monroe City Council on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Created by Monroe Police and Fire Chaplains Pastor Michael Hanford and Sister Barbara Geib, Monroe Police and Fire Appreciation Week takes place every year during the week before Thanksgiving.

The week culminates with a catered lunch, during which community leaders and students express their thanks to police officers and firefighters with songs, posters, cards and poetry.

The reading of the proclamation is an expression of gratitude from the city of Monroe for the “exceptional quality of public service” and commitment to keeping the community safe.

“On behalf of a grateful community, thank you very much,” Thomas said.
