Monroe farmers market embracing Dog Days of Summer

Complete with wet noses and wagging tails, Monroe's new Farm to Table Farmers Market will celebrate its one-month anniversary this week with a canine-themed event called Dog Days of Summer.

The Farm to Table Farmers Market takes place3-7 p.m. every Wednesday near Traveler's Park at 501 E. Main St. The market features local produce, hot food, live music and handcrafted items, such as jewelry and home decor, locally made wine, fresh eggs, face painting and activities for kids. Adam Hoffman of Adam's Northwest Bistro and Brewery provides a beer garden for the market.

As a way to keep the market fresh and interesting, Farm to Table coordinator Molly Daniels said she's established various themes that will take place throughout the summer and fall. Last month's Christmas in July included a visit from Santa Claus and several other Christmas-related attractions.

"There will be several special events throughout the season, including the Dog Days of Summer, which is happening this Wednesday,GÇ¥ Daniels said.

Daniels collaberated with Sam's Cats and Dogs, Naturally owner Sam Wirsching to emphasize the Sky Valley's furry four-legged population.

Dog Days of Summer was conceptualized by Whackadoodles & Wanderlust artisan Staci Scheffer, who hand-crafts jewelry out of upcycled silverware, and is planning to showcase new canine-themed items during the event.

Dog Days of Summer will highlight all things canine, including dog-themed crafts, dog balloon animals by Sean the Balloon Guy and natural pet food solutions.

Last week's market featured several returning vendors, including Sultan's Rainy Sunday Ranch, Monroe-based Heavenly Soap, Masterjohn Face Painting, Sammich Nutters, LLC, Dubindil Winery, Kenzie's Pendants, Simply too Shabby, Papa's Wood Fired Pizza and Skagit Sun Berries. Autumn Snapper, owner and lead designer for Annie Reason to Craft, showed off her ornate, handmade headbands, hair accessories and diaper-changing pads.

Daniels is looking for volunteers to help her with setting up and tearing down the market, cleanup and other tasks. To find out how to get involved, contact farmtotablemonroe@outlook.com.
