Monroe gets community website for volunteer activities

It's a website that links volunteers to different projects managed by churches, service organizations and other nonprofit agencies. And it's absolutely free to use.
Created by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, JustServe.org is a collaborative website that can be utilized by anybody who wishes to volunteer in their community. It can also be used by nonprofits, civic groups, schools, community organizations and other agencies in need of volunteers to accomplish different projects or help manage events. Monroe resident Kerry Boone helps oversee the site on a local level.
"The only parameters are it can't be for-profit or political,GÇ¥ Boone said. "But any other volunteer needs in the community are welcome.GÇ¥
Once a project is submitted, it is reviewed to make sure that it meets the criteria of being nonpolitical and not for profit. After it's approved, the project is listed on the site along with relevant details about the opportunity.
Prospective volunteers must register on the site in order to gain access to projects. Account creation is simple; users enter their name, email address and zip code in order to get started. One registered, users then enter in the zip code near where they would like to volunteer, and opportunities automatically come up. Additional parameters, such as distance restrictions, can be set to ensure that the volunteer opportunities are tailored in relation to how far a volunteer is willing to travel.
Volunteer opportunities listed for the Monroe area include the Volunteers of America Western Washington's Kids Caf+¬ Summer Lunch program in Sultan, the Sky Valley Food Bank, the Monroe Rotary Club's Night Out Against Crime event and more.
