Monroe Monitor welcomes new reporter Kelly Sullivan

By Brandon Macz

The Monroe Monitor & Valley News is excited to introduce full-time reporter Kelly Sullivan to our Sky Valley readers.

Sullivan brings a depth of journalism experience we expect will be a great asset to the Monitor’s continued and renewed commitment in 2017 to provide the highest quality reporting possible.

A Western Washington native, Sullivan recently returned to the area, after three years as a general assignment reporter at The Peninsula Clarion, a daily newspaper in Kenai, Alaska.

Her other experience includes an interning reporter position with The Northern Light in Blaine, Washington, and numerous publications while attending Western Washington University. Sullivan also led the redesign for the YWCA Bellingham back in 2012.

Sullivan has a desire to provide more education and agriculture reporting, as well as diving into investigative pieces, all of which are areas of focus we believe the Sky Valley desires.

We respect the opinions of our readers, a number of whom have responded passionately to our decision to end our working relationship with longtime reporter Chris Hendrickson, however, this decision was made based on a number of factors, none of which were malicious or a response to the reporting she provided.

The Sky Valley community embraced Hendrickson as the reporter for the Monroe Monitor & Valley News, and we hope it can do the same for Kelly Sullivan, who has expressed nothing but a strong desire to become familiar with and report the successes and challenges here in the community.
