Dick Birdsall passed away quietly Sunday morning, December 9, at his home on Camano Island, 93 years young.
Dick was born to Herman J. and May (Manhart) Birdsall in Snohomish, and graduated from Sultan High School in 1938.-á He married Monroe native Rayma Foye in 1940. He first worked as a logger. Following service in WW2, he attended the U of W, graduating in 1951 as an accountant. Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing, and took his young family on many backpacking adventures.
After retirement in 1977, he and Rayma moved to Monroe to live on a portion of the original Foye homestead. In 1990 they moved to Camano Island to enjoy daily golfing at Camaloch. He learned the craft of golfsmithing, and recycled old golf clubs into junior-size clubs for Camaloch's Young Golfers program.
Dick leaves behind his beloved wife of 72 years, Rayma; their children, Michael (Sandra) of Maple Valley, WA, Kristy-Ann Benson (Fred) of Grand Forks, BC, and Steven (Lyla) of Port Orchard, WA); plus grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, William J. Birdsall (Karel) of Kirkland, WA; and sister, Louene Boyd of Snohomish, WA.
A potluck memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, February 9 at 1 p.m. at the Swiss Hall, 18500 Tualco Rd., south of Monroe. Remembrances may be sent to Camano Island Fire and Rescue, 811 N. Sunrise Blvd, Camano Island, WA 98282.
