Sky Performing Arts goes big band ‘In the Mood’

Sky Performing Arts is offering its annual production of “In the Mood,” a show that merges comedy with big band sound right in time for the holidays.

Recreating a United Services Organization (USO) show set in the World War II era, “In the Mood” takes place at the Wagner Performing Arts Center near downtown Monroe. The series kicked off last weekend, and will continue with evening shows on Dec. 9-10 and a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11. General admission tickets are $16 each, or $14 for seniors, active military members and students. Groups that purchase 10 tickets or more pay $10 each.

Tickets will be available at the door and can be purchased in advance.

In addition to comedy sketches and singing, the production features the 17-piece Sky Notes Orchestra, led by Bill McKenzie.

Sky Performing Arts is a 501(C)3 nonprofit created about a decade ago when the board members from two separate performance groups, Take a Bough Productions and Off the Wall Theater, decided to merge, forming one community theater. The group presents two shows per year, including musicals, comedies, dramas and kids’ shows.

The Wagner Performing Arts Center is located at 639 W. Main St. in Monroe. For more information about Sky Performing Arts, visit www.skyperformingarts.com. To purchase tickets, visit www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2711927.
