McDonald was formally introduced to the Sultan City Council and members of the public during the council meeting on Thursday, Sept. 8.

A law enforcement officer for about 21 years, his most recent duty was at the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office headquarters in Everett, where he served as sergeant for the training division. He has worked in a variety of units during his two decades with the sheriff's office, including SWAT. He has served as a field training officer and an instructor in defensive tactics, firearms and active shooter response.

"I'm really, really excited about being in the city and serving this community,GÇ¥ McDonald said.

McDonald said he is no stranger to the Sky Valley, and actually requested the Sultan Police Chief position. He worked in east county as a deputy many years ago, he said, and after he was promoted to sergeant in 2010, served under former Sultan Police Chief Jeff Brand.

He spent time in Snohomish, another Snohomish County Sheriff's Office contract city, which gave him additional experience in community policing. He was recently promoted to lieutenant, which enabled him to move into the new role.

Sultan has already made an indelible impression on him, in regards to its level of community involvement. He has found the level of community involvement to be extraordinarily high and has already noticed the community's close-knit nature, he said, which is really unique.

"It's inspiring to see that, and it's even more inspiring to be a part of it,GÇ¥ McDonald said. "I am honored to be here.GÇ¥
