As a new sports season begins at Sultan High School, the athletic department is already pleased with the course of the 2013-2014 athletic year, as the fall sports season was encouraging, said Sultan High School Vice Principal Scott Sifferman.
"We had a very successful fall season,GÇ¥ he said.
The girls soccer and volleyball teams both started out strong, celebrating early wins, but took some tough losses as the quarter went on, he noted.
"As the season progressed, the Lady Turks soccer team suffered a handful of tough losses, playing toe to toe with most of the teams in our league, but came up a goal short in those games,GÇ¥ said Sifferman. "The volleyball team had hopes of building upon the end of the season push they had last year, but could not find the consistency needed during the season.GÇ¥
The football team has a very good year, going into district playoffs with a 4-2 league record, including a first-ever win over Archbishop Murphy.
"We then had solid wins over South Whidbey and Coupeville,GÇ¥ said Sifferman.
The team's season came to an end after a 35-7 loss to Lynden at districts.
The cross country team was small this year, but determined.
"The team worked hard and saw individual improvement throughout the season,GÇ¥ Sifferman said.
"Senior Aaron Heidlage finished 29th at Districts, finishing nine spots off of an invitation to State. All in all, the Turks has a successful fall season.GÇ¥
