Sultan woman arrested for stabbing neighbor

A 55-year-old Sultan woman was arrested in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 9, for allegedly stabbing her neighbor in the stomach. She is facing charges of assault in the first degree.
Snohomish County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the scene at 132nd Street S.E. in Sultan after receiving a report that a man had been stabbed. The 52-year-old victim, who was conscious when deputies arrived, was able to identify his attacker. He then lost consciousness and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Clinic in Seattle with life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses on the scene were contacted by deputies. They described a disagreement between the woman and the man which began as heated verbal exchange having to do with the theft of some property.
According to the witnesses, the argument escalated and the woman approached the man with an "axe handleGÇ¥ to confront him about the theft. The man grabbed the axe handle and after he did so, the woman removed a double-edged knife from her back pocket and stabbed him in the abdomen.
Police documents state that, at that point, the woman "calmly returned to her motorhome with the knife.GÇ¥
The woman was detained in her motorhome which was located approximately 30 feet from the scene of the incident. When questioned by police she stated that the victim had stolen her keys the day before, and in an attempt at retaliation she took a bicycle belonging to him. Police documents state that the woman's keys were returned to her by another individual living on the property, after which she approached the victim with his bicycle.
The axe handle was reportedly attached to the bicycle.
Documents state that the suspect told detectives that she was afraid for her life, and that is why she stabbed the victim. Detectives reported that the suspect appeared lucid and not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The knife was recovered near the scene, in the woman's home. She was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, a class A felony. She is being held without bail at Snohomish County Jail.
