Thomas leads in Monroe mayor race

When preliminary election results were released at 8:30 p.m. election night, Geoffrey Thomas was in the lead for the role of mayor.
He had 54 percent of the vote, and his opponent Ed Davis had 45 percent.
Incumbent Monroe City Council member Kevin Hanford held a slight lead over challenger Brad Waddell, 51-48 percent.
Jeff Rasmussen, a former parks board member, held a 52-46 percent lead over Mike Stanger, both of them running for an empty seat.
And for the tw0-year at-large city council seat, incumbent Kurt Goering held a comfortable 57-43 percent lead over contender Daniel Williams.
And in the race to represent the Sky Valley district on the County Council, incumbent Dave Somers had a commanding lead over Republican opponent Chris Vallo, 57-42 percent.
About three quarters of the ballots in Snohomish County have been counted, with about 26,000 left to count; as the count continues results will be updated daily at 5 p.m. Voter turnout appears to have been low, at about 20 percent.
