Multiple contracts awarded for Rainier climb guides

Three companies have signed contracts to provide mountain climbing guide services at Mount Rainier National Park. The National Park Service awarded contracts to Alpine Ascents International, Inc., International Mountain Guides, and Rainier Mountaineering Inc. Each of the 10-year contracts, announced Sept. 21, were expected to begin on Nov. 1. All three companies have been guiding climbers at Mount Rainier and other national parks for many years, said Randy King, superintendent of Mount Rainier National Park. He added, “Each have a proven track record of providing outstanding visitor services that enable people to learn about alpine climbing and how to care for the mountain.” On average, about 8,000 people per year try to climb Rainier.
