SPSL showers Eatonville with all-league honors
Eatonville’s return this fall to the 2A ranks of high school football was a success by virtually every measure, including post-season honors doled out by the South Puget Sound League. Eight Cruisers were named All-SPSL, and another 11 received second-team or honorable mention recognition. The first-team selections were divided among the Cruisers' offense (four), defense (two) and special teams (two). Two players, Brooks Moeller and Hayden Bauman, were picked twice – Moeller as a tight end and a defensive back, and Bauman as a lineman on offense and defense. Joining Bauman and Moeller were quarterback Tristan Graf, wide receiver Zarak Skruggs, kicker Brendon Morton, and special-teamer Ray Springer. Eatonville, which played in 2015 at the 1A enrollment level, moved back to larger 2A this year. The results were good: An overall record of 8-3, third place in the SPSL's Sound Division, and a four-game winning streak that carried the Cruisers through the district playoffs and into the first round of the state tournament. Their season ended with a loss to Ellensburg, an eventual state semifinalist. River Ridge, the Sound Division champion and a quarterfinalist in the state tourney, swept some of the top all-league awards. Quarterback Kelle Sanders was named Most Valuable Player, and Zach Carter was chosen as Defensive Player of the Year.
