Schools in south Pierce County are ready for trouble from Old Man Winter. The Eatonville School District, bracing for any major winter storms or severe weather in the next few months, has offered the following on how it will handle possible school closures or other disruptions to normal schedules: • A 24-hour hotline at 360-879-1100 will have updated information on any delays or closures. Information will also be posted on the district’s web site and made available to television and radio stations. • Decisions to close or delay schools are made by 5 a.m. on school days to accommodate families whose parents leave home early for work. • Factors that are considered in whether to open schools in inclement weather or storms include road conditions, temperatures two which students are exposerd walking to school or waiting for buses, weather forecasts, and whether school buildings have electricity. In the Bethel School District, officials note that during inclement weather, schools may stay on a normal schedule, start late, or close entirely. While it's hard to predict such decisions, the information will be shared as quickly as possible, officials proimse. Communications can come from phone call and e-mail from the district's Blackboard Connect system, announcements via television and radio stations, and posts on the district's website and Facebook and Twitter pages.
