The size of a fire burning in a forested area near Alder Lake has grown beyond 250 acres and increased the potential for evacuations, officials reported Friday. No injuries or damaged property has been reported, but Lewis County Emergency Management Services had issued a Level 1 evacuation notice and planned to open shelters in Morton in the event of actual evacuations. As of Aug. 28, the fire had burned 253 acres and was 10 percent contained, according to U.S. Forest Service officials. Dead and downed timber is among the fuel for the fire that started with a lightning strike Aug. 11.
