State Sen. Randi Becker, saying she needs to keep herself available for voting on legislation, has canceled a town hall-style meeting she had planned to host by telephone April 9 for discussions of legislative issues with residents of the Second Legislative District. Becker, while "deeply disappointed that I'm unable to bring this virtual community gathering" to constituents, said she needs to focus on helping the 2015 session of the Legislature adjourn by April 26 as scheduled. By Thursday, the day the town hall was planned), "all of the Senate committees will have completed their work, so if voting on bills Thursday evening moves us closer to wrapping, that's where I will need to be," Becker said. "Overtime legislative sessions are costly to the taxpayers. I think my constituents can understand that I am doing everything in my power to adjourn on time." The forum would have allowed people to ask questions, participate in instant polls, or simply listen to the conversation through their phone or computer.
