Bethel Learning Center on track

Construction of Bethel Learning Center is on-budget and on time for a scheduled opening in October, according to Bethel School District.
The center will be focused on meeting the educational and related needs of the community, district officials said.
Jay Brower, the district's director of community relations, said in an e-mail that formal dedication of the new facility is planned for Oct. 13.
Construction started in April at the site on 38th Avenue East, across from Bethel Middle School. The project, originally budgeted at $1.8 million, rose to $2.5 million because of federal regulations requiring the 5,200 square-feet building to be stronger and to include a more sophisticated fire suppression system. The cost of the project also increased because of an increase in on-site parking and delays in seeking bids from contractors, district officials said.
Funding for the project includes federal and state grants.
